What is the difference between Ashtanga Yoga and regular Yoga?

There are so many different styles of yoga being taught and practiced today in Australia and all over the world that it can be difficult for beginners to figure out the difference.

One of the most popular styles of yoga that emerged in the mid-1990s and is often referred to as ‘royal yoga’ is called Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, or Ashtanga Yoga.

Ashtanga, which means ‘eight limbs’ in Sanskrit, is a fast-paced, traditional style of yoga. With its emphasis on strength and flexibility, it is the inspiration for what is often called Power Yoga. It differs from regular Yoga in that it employs connecting poses with the use of linking the breath with movement.  There are a set series of poses for each practice so each practitioner gradually learns the poses of each series.
